Replacements for Avon services set to go
Just weeks after the collapse of Avon Buses, Merseytravel have announced a series of new and revised routes to plug gaps in Wirral’s bus network.
Full details of the new services can be found here: https://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/travel-updates/Pages/Services-previously-operated-by-Avon-Buses.aspx
Councillor Allan Brame has welcomed the new re-routed 91 service, which will run from Monday to Friday, covering Birkenhead town centre, Palm Grove, Bidston Road, Oxton Village, the Prenton shops and the Holmlands estate.
“This will be a great relief for many older Oxton residents who have really struggled since Avon went out of business,” Allan Brame said.
“Of course Oxton Village lost its bus back in April when Avon re-designed the route of the old 91, so to have a bus coming along Village Road and Rose Mount will be a real improvement – so long as parked vehicles don’t hold the bus up and cause problems keeping to the timetable.”
The new service is being operated by Stagecoach from Monday to Friday.
On Saturdays, the route will be slightly different and will be provided by A2B. Claughton Village and Prenton Hall Road will be covered, but Oxton Village will not have a Saturday service.
