Southport’s Liberal Democrat MP John Pugh spoke to a meeting of local Liberal Democrats in Greasby recently about getting a fairer deal for the North of England.
He talked of the need to increase spending in the North and to devolve more decision making powers to our region. “Spending on projects such as the ‘Northern Hub’ rail improvements that has started and will create faster links from Merseyside to Manchester and Leeds and will have a greater impact than HS2. This £600m programme will create up to 20,000 new jobs” John commented.
Peter Reisdorf, who chaired the meeting, echoed John’s comments and added “Lib Dems are passionate about our region and must ensure that the benefits of the economic growth that coalition policies have enabled are not concentrated in the South East.”
